The Blues or formerly the Auckland Blues is the professional rugby union from New Zealand that plays in Super Rugby. The team was founded in 1996 under the NZ Rugby Union, same year Super Rugby was started. They are originated from Auckland, covers Northland and North Harbour region as well. Their home soil is Eden Park in Auckland which has a huge capacity of 50,000 seats for a single event. Former NZ player Leon MacDonald is the current head coach of the team. Blake Gibson and Patrick Tuipulotu are the two captains of the side of this season. The Top scorer of the team is Adrian Cashmore (617) points and Keven Mealamu (164) is the most caps player.
Blues are one of the most famous teams of this event because they won both starting seasons. They made a hat-trick by qualifying for the 3rd consecutive season in 1998, but they lost Final against Crusaders. It was the golden era of Blues because they won both titles which lead the team to mark some history. They took the revenge of 1998 championship final from Crusaders in 2003 Final. They won 3 titles overall and were a semi-finalist in 2007 and 2011.
