The Rugby World Cup is a mega-event of men's rugby union which is played after every 4 years in different countries of the world. It is an international event which competes with the top international rugby teams. The first Rugby World Cup took place in 1987, hosted by New Zealand and Australia.

Argentina: The Argentina national rugby team is the old team of Rugby, playing since 1910. They are currently 11th in the World Ranking of Rugby, marking the highest place 7th in the ranking in July 2017. Argentina reached the Semi-finals of the World Cup in 2007 and 2015, their highest place in Rugby World Cup. They will play the first match of the Rugby World Cup 2023 against France in Pool A at Stade de France.
Australia: The Australia national rugby union team is the two times champion team playing since 1899. The Wallabies won World Cup two times when it was Webb Ellis Cup, in 1991 and 1999 Rugby World Cups. They appeared in all Rugby World Cups happened so far, currently, they are World Ranking 6th team. The first Australia RWC Match is Australia V Fiji in Pool C at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.
Canada: The Canada national rugby union team is from the North American region, playing rugby since 1932. They are known as Canucks and The Reds have maple leaf as their emblem. The Reds reached the highest in the Quarter-Finals of RWC in 1991. Currently, they are the 21st team in the Rugby World Ranking. In the 2023 World Cup, they will play their first match against Italy in Pool A at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.
England: The England national rugby union team is one of the oldest teams in rugby history playing since 1871. The English rugby team has Red Rose in their emblem, also known by the same name. With so rich history they have won many titles including the Rugby World Cup in 2003. Currently, they are World Ranking 5th team before entering into the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Their first match is England V Argentina in Pool D at Stade de Marseille.
Fiji: The Fiji national rugby union team is from the Oceania region, they enter the rugby fields in 1939. They are known as the Flying Fijians and use “Palm” in their emblem. The Fijians are among the Quarter-finalists of the 1987 and 2007 Rugby World Cup, which is the highest reach of the team. Currently, they are 10th in the Rugby World Ranking. Fiji will play their first match of the Rugby World Cup 2023 against Australia in the Pool C match at Stade de France.
France: The France national rugby union team is the European region rugby team playing the game since 1906. The nickname of France's Rugby team is “The Blues”, having a Gallic rooster into their emblem. They aren’t lucky enough because thrice they lost the Final of the Rugby World Cup in 1987, 1999, and 2011. Currently, they are residing in 7th place in the World Ranking of Rugby. England is going to take on Argentina in their first match of the Rugby World Cup 2023 in the Pool D match at Stade de Marseille.
Georgia: The Georgia national rugby union team is automatically selected for Rugby World Cup 2023 and didn’t need any qualifiers. The Georgian rugby team is nicknamed Borjgalosnebi and Lelos, having Borjgali in their emblem. It’s been their 4th appearance in the World Cups of Rugby and every time their journey ends in the Pool Stage. Before the World Cup at the current moment, they are World Ranking 12th team. In Pool C, they will start a battle with Georgia V Wales match at the City Of Stade de la Beaujoire.
Ireland: The Ireland national rugby union team is another from the European region for the World Cup 2019. Since 1875, Ireland rugby union is playing matches against the opponents. Ireland can be the only team who reaches almost every rugby world cup quarter-final. But unfortunately couldn’t move a step further and ended in QFs in 1987, 1991, 1995, 2003, 2011, and 2015. They are currently the 3rd team in Rugby World Ranking, which will start RWC 2023 ride against Scotland in the Pool B match at Stade de Marseille.
Italy: The Italy national rugby union team is the Europe region rugby union, and has been playing international matches since 1929. They are known as the “Azzurri” and Italy Rugby Federation is the core body which operates the team. The highest finish for the Italy rugby team is the Pool stage in all the World Cups happened so far in Rugby history. For now, they are in 13th place in the World Ranking of Rugby. In RWC 2023, the first match of Azzurri is Italy V Namibia in Pool A match at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.
Japan: The Japan national rugby union team is the Host team of the Rugby World Cup 2023 and the only team from the Asia Region. The Japan Rugby fans nicknamed their team Cherry Blossoms and Brave Blossoms, having Sakura in their Emblem. The Asian rugby Japan team was founded back in 1926 and played its first international match in 1932. But unfortunately for the side, they didn’t move further than Pool Stage in every World Cup of Rugby. As they are now hosting side of World Cup 2023 maybe this will change their destination. Before the start of RWC 2023, Japan ranks 9th in the World Ranking. They will take on Russia in the first match of World Cup 2023 at the Stade de France in Pool A-game.
Namibia: The Namibia national rugby union team is the African region rugby team that qualified for the 2023 RWC as well. They are playing since the 1900s but entered into Rugby World Cup in 1999 through qualifications. Since then they have 5 appearances but “Welwitschias” didn’t win a single match. In qualifications, they won most matches but at the big stage of WC, they lost, currently hold World Ranking at 23rd position. Namibia V Italy will be the first match for Welwitschias in the Pool A match at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.
New Zealand: The New Zealand national rugby union team is the defending champion of the Rugby World Cup 2015. As well as RWC 2011, they won 3 Rugby World Cups, including the first World Cup of Rugby in 1987. The NZ Rugby fans know their team with nicknames of All Blacks, they have Silver fern frond in the emblem. They are currently in 2nd position in World Rugby Rankings. New Zealand will face South Africa in the first match, its Pool B game at International Stadium Yokohama.
Portugal: The Russian national rugby union team is the second Asian team but qualifies from the Europe region. They started to begin to play international rugby matches in 1992 and this is their second appearance in Rugby World Cup. Currently, Russia is in 20th place in World Ranking. They will play their first match against host nation Japan, it’ll be a Pool A match at Tokyo Stadium.
Samoa: The Samoa national rugby union team is the Oceania region team playing international matches since 1924. They are nicknamed Manu Samoa and have Southern Cross in their emblem. Missing the inaugural Rugby World Cup 1987, Samoa has been part of the remaining World Cups. The best was in 1991 and 1995 for Manu Samoa as they reached the highest level to Quarter-finals in their playing history. For now, they are World Rank 16th team in Rugby unions. Samoa V Russia will be their first match in Pool A at Kumagaya Rugby Stadium.
Scotland: The Scotland national rugby union team is a European region team that plays rugby since 1871. Scotland has the “Thistle” flower in their emblem, playing under Scottish Rugby Union. Scotland is one of the teams which plays all Rugby World Cups to date, their highest RWC Finish was in the Semi-Finals that came in 1991. Currently, they are the 8th ranked team in the Rugby World Ranking, their first RWC Match is Scotland V Ireland in Pool A at International Stadium Yokohama.
South Africa: The South Africa national rugby union team is playing this rugby game since 1891 but joined Rugby World Cups in 1995. The important South African team is known as Springboks, Bokke, and Amabokoboko, having Springbok & Protea in their emblem. They reach in World Cup Finals and won the 1995 and 2007 Rugby World Cups. Now they are World Ranking 4th team which will play the first Rwc Match, South Africa V New Zealand in Pool B at International Stadium Yokohama.
Tonga: The Tonga national rugby union team is an old rugby team from the Oceania region that played almost every RWC. They are nicknamed Ikale Tahi (Sea Eagles) which have a white dove in their emblem. Hard luck for the Tonga Rugby Union because they couldn’t even be qualified for the Quarter-finals of any Rugby World Cup. All they have is the Pool stage and in 1991, they couldn’t qualify for WC. They are World Ranking 15th team which will play the first RWC Match, Tonga V England in Pool C at Sapporo Dome.
Uruguay: The Uruguay national rugby union team is another old test match team of Rugby, but they are a Tier 2 team. They require qualifications for the World Cup, they appeared 4 times in the Rugby World Cup but couldn’t cross the Pool stage. Currently, they are World Ranking 19th team which will play the first RWC Match, Uruguay V Fiji in Pool D at Kamaishi Recovery Memorial Stadium.
Chile: The United States national rugby union team is the Rugby Americas North region team playing from the early 20th century. The United States Rugby Union has the nickname Eagles and has an American bald eagle in their emblem. The USA rugby team is one of the most anticipated world rugby teams which plays all World Cups to date except 1995. They are 14th Rank team in World Rugby Rankings. The Use V England will be their first RWC Match in Pool C at Kobe Misaki Stadium.
Wales: The Wales national rugby union team is the European region team playing since 1881 under Welsh Rugby Union. The Prince of Wales's feathers is the emblem of the Wales Rugby team. They played all the World Cups of Rugby since its inception in 1987 when they reached Semi-finals. Same as they did in the 2011 Rugby World Cup but couldn’t win an RWC yet. Currently, they are on the Top side of the Rugby ranking leaving behind New Zealand with a small margin in points. Wales Vs Georgia will be their first match in Pool C at the City Of Stade de la Beaujoire.
