The Pacific Nations Cup is the World Rugby international event that held every year since 2006 in the pacific region. The basic reason to play this event was to strengthen up the tier 2 rugby unions team. In 2019 Pacific Nations Cup, the national teams of Japan, USA and Canada rugby unions will be added. Along with last year teams, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga will compete with the tier 1 team for World Cup 2019 Rugby World Cup. Georgia will not be the part of the 2019 World Rugby Pacific Nations Cup.
This is the 14th edition of Pacific Nations Cup that will be played in Samoa, Japan, USA, and Fiji. Total 6 teams are participating in the Pacific Nations Cup 2019 which is organized by World Rugby. This year 3 teams inclusion is the key for the preparation of the upcoming Rugby World Cup 2019 in Japan. It will benefit the 2nd tier teams of Rugby competition to play with the first tier teams. In past editions of Pacific Nations Cup, these teams participated in the event.
Japan participated from 2006 to 2015,
New Zealand from 2006 to 2009,
Australia from 2007 to 2008,
Canada and the USA from 2013 to 2015.
Fiji team is the defending champion of World Rugby Pacific Nations Cup which was held in 2018. They also have the record of most titles winning of Pacific Nations Cup, which is 5 times. From last 4 years, Fiji Rugby union is winning this tournament against the other participated teams. Samoa rugby union has the second-best record of winning it 3 times and 3 times runners-up.
The World Rugby event Pacific Nations Cup 2019 has 3 Rounds and each will have 3 matches in it. Nine matches will be played in the tournament from 27 July to 10 August 2019. Given below are the 2019 Pacific Nations Cup Fixtures
